Stew Macintosh, AACI, P. App

32 years of appraisal experience
One of the founding partners of Macintosh Appraisals, Stew has over four decades of appraisal experience in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors in addition to several years in real estate sales and construction. Stew’s recent focus has been on review and mentorship work with candidate appraisers and has been a regular guest speaker for several financial institutions. In addition to his extensive appraisal experience, Stew has also appeared as an expert witness before the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Court of Revision.

Richard Yoshida, CRA, P. App

35 years of appraisal experience

Richard is a founding partner of Macintosh Appraisals. With 35 years of appraisal experience (including commercial, industrial and residential appraisals) and several years of real estate sales, sub-division construction and property management experience, he also serves as a regular guest speaker for several financial institutions and has appeared as an expert witness before the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Court of Revision. Richard is also the senior review appraiser for Macintosh Appraisals and has mentored several appraisers throughout his decades of experience.

Berk Aktug, CRA, P. App

20 years of appraisal experience
A partner at Macintosh Appraisals, Berk has appraised residential real estate throughout the Lower Mainland for almost 20 years with a focus on high-end properties including waterfront, luxury homes/condominiums and acreages. Having contemplated attending law school prior to following his passion in real estate, Berk is also in demand as a residential appraiser specializing in litigation and has served the court as an expert witness. In his free time, Berk volunteers coaching his two kids with the Richmond Jets Minor Hockey Association and the Richmond Roadrunners Lacrosse Association. Berk is fluent in both English and French, along with a basic understanding in Turkish.

Sean Kim, AIC Candidate Member

6 years of appraisal experience
Raised in North Vancouver, Sean’s interest in the appraisal profession began in his days in banking, where he specialized in residential and business lending. With over six years of valuation and consulting experience, he is proficient across a wide range of services in the Greater Vancouver & Fraser Valley Area. His experience entails appraisals of a wide array of properties for new acquisitions/dispositions, mortgage financing, foreclosures, capital gains tax and a variety of other unique assignments. Outside of work, Sean’s main interest is staying on top of many topics such as the economy, investing and commerce. Sean is presently enrolled in the AIC Distance Education Program at the Sauder School of Business at UBC, where he is working towards the AACI, P.App. designation. Sean is fluent in both English and Korean, with a basic understanding of French.

Michael Reilly, AACI, P. App

40 years of appraisal experience
One of the most in-demand and experienced commercial appraisers in the Lower Mainland of BC, Mike has been appraising commercial, industrial and special-use properties for over 40 years. His expertise runs the gamut of properties including development sites, offices, motels, auto dealerships, storage/manufacturing plants, hotels/motels, mountain resorts, mobile home parks, cannabis cultivation facilities, movie / sound studios and bio labs and marinas. Mike also has extensive experience with highest and best use studies, arbitration hearings and assessment appeals, in addition to having appeared as an expert witness before the Supreme Court of British Columbia. A fountain of appraisal knowledge, Mike has rarely encountered an assignment too complex to tackle.

James Ballard, CRA, P. App

23 years of appraisal experience
Jim completed the Realty Appraisal Diploma program at Langara College in 1995, joined the Appraisal Institute in 1996 and earned his CRA designation in 1999, shortly after joining Macintosh Appraisals. In addition to typical single family homes, Jim has expertise in executive properties, condominiums, acreages, unique properties, waterfront homes, renovation properties and new construction. Jim has also volunteered with the Appraisal Institute of Canada’s BC chapter since 2020 when he became a member of the Fraser Valley Organizing Committee and has been elected Chair since 2021. Jim is also a member of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council, where he hopes to inspire other AIC members with disabilities in the appraisal profession to volunteer in the industry.

Bryan McPherson, AACI, P. App, BBA

20 years of appraisal experience
Bryan has over 20 years of appraisal experience including residential, commercial and industrial properties, along with four years of real estate sales experience. Bryan has a keen interest in litigation appraisals, having appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada as an expert witness, as well as the broad spectrum of properties in the Lower Mainland with a focus on unique and high-end properties.

Bruce Payne, CRA, P. App, Ret’d

31 years of appraisal experience

31 years of appraisal experience in all areas of residential real estate including acreage properties, relocations, unique properties, high end homes, renovation properties and new construction; some experience with commercial and industrial real estate properties.

Roy Soby, CRA, P. App, Ret’d

29 years of appraisal experience
29 years of appraisal experience in all aspects of residential real estate plus several years of related knowledge in real estate sales and construction; expertise in executive properties, acreages, unique properties, waterfront homes, relocations, renovation properties and new construction; provides appraisal reviews and has appeared as an expert witness before the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

James Herriot, AACI, P. App, B. Comm. Ret’d

28 years of appraisal experience
28 years of appraisal experience in primarily residential real estate plus several years of related knowledge in underwriting commercial and residential mortgages; long time review appraiser; completed Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia; provided opinions of value before the City of Vancouver Council; appeared as an expert witness before the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

Paul Choi

5 YEARS OF RESIDENTIAL APPRAISAL
Paul has over five years of experience as a residential appraiser. During his career, he has appraised a variety of properties including single family homes, acreages and multi-family homes across Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Prior to his entry into the appraisal field, Paul had five years of experience in the financial industry assisting clients with investments and loans. During his spare time, he enjoys cooking, skiing, and spending quality time with his family. Paul is presently enrolled in the AIC Distance Education Program at the Sauder School of Business at UBC, where he is working towards the CRA, P.App. designation. Paul is fluent in both English and Korean.

Sam Su

10 years of appraisal experience
As a licensed real estate agent of the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, Sam has been in real estate trading for over 10 years. He is currently a Candidate member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada and joined Macintosh Appraisals in 2022. His primary coverage areas for residential appraisals includes Burnaby, Vancouver, the North Shore and Richmond. He is enrolled in the AIC Distance Education Program at the Sauder School of Business at UBC and is working towards obtaining the CRA, P.App. designation. Sam is fluent in both English and Chinese.

Joy Hartley

Office Manager
Joy has many years experience working in an office atmosphere with strong organizational skills to ensure that the office runs smoothly. She has lived in Coquitlam for over 50 years and in her spare time she enjoys baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

Alyssa Truiyen

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Alyssa is a resourceful employee with strong multitasking and communication skills. She has approximately eight years of experience in an office environment and is considered an experienced customer service representative with an accounts receivable background. Alyssa has lived all over the Lower Mainland and in her spare time she enjoys kayaking, boating, hiking and traveling.

Richelle Yoshida

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Richelle is a recent addition to our office and brings an eager approach to customer service with a high attention to detail. In her free time, she creates Japanese artwork.
